The week-long ENGCOMM 2025 has officially concluded, and big congratulations to all the participants who worked towards making this year's competition an outstanding achievement. Students from across the globe gathered in the energetic city of Montreal, Canada, to solve challenging interdisciplinary problems and share new ideas. ENGCOMM has been operational since 2013, as a unique competition that is the only interdisciplinary student-run competition in the world. Integrating business with engineering allows students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world problems. The competition was held from February 18 to 23, 2025, and the teams worked on three cases: two six-hour cases and one challenging twelve-hour case throughout the week. Each challenge required participants to think deeply, develop creative plans, and find practical solutions within a limited time frame. These tasks tested their technical and analytical abilities, as well as their teamwork skills.

Key participants recalled their experiences:

“One of the most rewarding aspects of the competition was the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical context. Crafting our case solution required extensive research and analysis, honing my analytical skills and emphasizing the importance of communication and persuasive presentation skills, areas I have been motivated to improve throughout my academic journey.”

It concluded with a finale at the De Sève Theatre, where teams had 15 minutes to present their solutions to the jury and audience. Students prepared professional slides and analyses with feasible suggestions. The judges evaluated each presentation on creativity, viability, and implementation so that only the best would emerge.

ENGCOMM 2025 was more than just solving cases. It was an opportunity for personal career and professional development as well. Network nights live, "The Wine & Cheese Networking Reception", provided a relaxed environment where participants could network with industry professionals. In addition, participants were able to appreciate the unique culture of Montreal. The city is full of history, art, and entertainment activities. These cultural activities bonded the participants and served as a break from the competition.

University life is not just about lectures and coursework. It encourages pushing yourself out of your comfort zone to grow. ENGCOMM is an example of how experiential learning activities can enhance a student's global perspective and career aspirations. To future applicants, I strongly encourage everyone to join various global case competitions. A small step can lead to unexpected outcomes. Here's wishing the next learners all the best! Look out for ENGCOMM 2026!
