PolyU SPEED participated in the 2024 Sydney International Business Competition (SIBC), held from October 6 to 11. The competition offered an exceptional opportunity for students to tackle real-world business challenges, connect with peers from around the globe, and experience the vibrant city of Sydney. The PolyU SPEED team, comprising four students, embraced the two-case format of the competition: a 6-hour case featuring Communiteer, an Australian social enterprise, and a 24-hour case focusing on Telstra, Australia’s leading telecommunications company. Although the team did not secure a prize this year, the experience proved to be immensely rewarding, both professionally and personally. SIBC 2024 challenged participants to develop strategic solutions for pressing business issues. The first case involved Communiteer, a platform that connects, engages, and mobilises volunteers to create a positive social impact. The second case, presented by Telstra, required teams to address complex business challenges in telecommunications, reflecting Telstra’s commitment to innovation and its pivotal role in driving Australia's digital transformation.

Reflecting on the experience, one participant shared, “SIBC allowed us to step out of our comfort zones and solve real-world problems under time pressure. It was a challenging yet invaluable learning experience.” Another student remarked, “Although we didn’t win, we gained so much from this competition. From networking with talented peers to exploring Sydney’s culture and iconic sites, this journey has been unforgettable.”

The competition also provided a unique platform for participants to build meaningful connections with students from around the world. Over the course of the week, PolyU SPEED students forged new friendships, exchanged ideas, and expanded their global perspectives.
